Jordan behind the times?

LaMont Jordan was cleared to play in Saturday's preseason game against San Francisco. Raiders coach Lane Kiffin says the veteran running back has some catching up to do.

"He needs a lot of work, especially in these next two games," Kiffin said. " He needs some work because he needs to see this zone (blocking) system. This is not something he's used to. He's got to see what he can't see in practice, to see the backside getting cut, guys on the ground, how the holes open up. He's got to get some work."

Jordan won't start against San Francisco, however. The Raiders will open the game with Dominic Rhodes as the starter, according to Kiffin.

Defensive end Derrick Burgess is also scheduled to play after missing much of training camp early while recovering from offseason hernia surgery. Kiffin is also on the mend after spending two days in the hospital while being treated for mononucleosis.

"Getting out here is a little bit of therapy," Kiffin said. "You get a little bit of energy just being out here with the guys. Then you go back in and come down a little bit. You just have to find a way to get up for one more practice like we have to do with them."

The Raiders made one roster move Thursday, releasing wide receiver Will Buchanon. Offensive lineman Corey Hulsey, who previously played for Oakland, was brought in for a tryout on Thursday and could be signed as soon as Thursday night.

In one other note, veteran safety Donovin Darius left the morning practice after suffering a leg injury. The extent of the injury, however, is not known.
