Russell officially signs and practices

JaMarcus Russell finally signed his contract and was on the field for his first practice with the Raiders on Wednesday.

Full details of the contract were unavailable but it's believed to be a six-year deal that includes slightly more than $31 million in guaranteed money. The total value of the deal could be worth as much as $61 million.

"It's been a long time and I am happy that everything is finally over and I get a chance to be a football player again," JaMarcus Russell said in a statement released by the Raiders. "I can't wait to get out there to see everybody."

Wearing his No. 2 red jersey, Russell stretched then worked out with Oakland's other quarterbacks in individual drills. He threw several short passes and worked on his mechanics before joining the rest of the team for a full workout.

The Raiders called a press conference for 3 p.m. Wednesday when Russell will be made available to reporters.
