Buchanon win Rookie of the Week (again)

Buchanon recorded five tackles, two passes defensed and an 81-yard interception-return for a touchdown in the Raiders' 49-31 win over Buffalo. Buchanon's interception came in the fourth quarter with 8:02 remaining in the game and with Oakland leading 35-31. Buchanon has now recorded an interception and has scored a touchdown in back-to-back games – his first two career starts.

Voters on NFL.com have made their choice.  Cornerback PHILLIP BUCHANON of the Oakland Raiders is the PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK for games played October 6-7, the NFL announced today.  Buchanon has now won the award in consecutive weeks.

More than 46,000 fans voted this week on NFL.com.  The PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK is the first weekly NFL honor to be selected solely by NFL fans.  Buchanon was selected from among five finalists.  The other finalists were New Orleans Saints defensive end CHARLES GRANT, Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle JOHN HENDERSON, Denver Broncos running back CLINTON PORTIS and Washington Redskins quarterback PATRICK RAMSEY.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors.  Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com throughout the month of January.  The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XXXVII in San Diego.
