Raiders sign McFadden

The Raiders signed first-round draft pick Darren McFadden late Thursday night, a team spokesman confirmed.

No terms were announced but the Raiders called an 11 a.m. press conference for Friday to announce the deal. McFadden, the fourth overall pick, just completed taking part in Oakland's three-day mandatory mini-camp. His agent, along with his father and step-mother, were in attendance during the workouts, signalling the two sides were getting close to a deal. By signing McFadden so soon Oakland made sure it avoided a repeat of 2007 when first-round draft pick JaMarcus Russell missed all of training camp and preseason while his contract was being negotiated.
