Janikowski named player of the week

Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski was named the AFC's Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday following his record-setting, game-winning field goal in overtime last week against the Jets.

Janikowski's 57-yard field goal not only broke his own franchise record but it was the longest field goal in overtime in NFL history. Green Bay's Chris Jacke held the previous mark of 53 yards set in 1996.

"As soon as I hit it I started celebrating because I knew I hit it good," said Janikowski, who was buried under a pile of celebrating teammates and didn't see his kick split the uprights. "That's probably one of the best I have made,. I've tried longer ones … but this one is up there. It's number one.

"I know if I missed it, it wouldn't have been good. By make one, just seeing those guys in the locker just laughing and smiling feels good."

It's the third time in his career that Janikowski has been named player of the week.

Janikowski also inched closer to becoming the Raiders career scoring leader. He has 855 points and needs nine more to pass Hall of Famer George Blanda (863) for the top spot.

In other team news:

· The Raiders placed tight end Ben Troupe on injured reserve with a foot injury and re-signed linebacker Robert Thomas. Thomas was Oakland's starting strongside linebacker in 2007 but lost his job to Ricky Brown in training camp this year. He was hurt in the preseason and released after agreeing to an injury settlement.

Thomas will continue to back up Brown on defense but the Raiders expect him to play on special teams, perhaps as soon as this weekend's game in Baltimore.

· Defensive end Derrick Burgess remains sidelined with a triceps strain. He did not practice and is almost certain to sit out Thursday's workout as well.

· Defensive tackle Gerard Warren was also held out of practice. He injured his foot in the win over the Jets and was limping noticeably afterward, though Tom Cable is optimistic Warren will play against the Ravens.

· Linebacker Jon Alston, who ran the fake punt against the Jets, was held out of practice as well with a foot injury.
