Free agent outlook: Safeties

One story in a series of free agents by position who may warrant interest. Today – a look at safeties:

Rogers Beckett, San Diego (possible salary cap cut): Nothing spectacular but can be a dependable player.

Eric Brown, Houston (unrestricted): Enjoyed a solid season with the expansion Texans and can be an intimidating hitter.

Lethon Flowers, Pittsburgh (unrestricted): He would be a good pickup but he can still be a bit one-dimensional in that at times he is a bit overzealous when playing the run.

Rodney Harrison, San Diego (possible salary cap cut): Even though he missed a few games to injury he can still be an intimidator against the pass and run.

Dexter Jackson, Tampa Bay (unrestricted): Super Bowl MVP performance against Oakland was outstanding but chances are the Bucs front seven applying so much pressure masked the fact that he has a tendency to make mistakes.

Sam Knight, New Orleans (unrestricted): One of the best at this position in the market and would be a great pickup for a team looking fir a physical safety.

Kwamie Lassiter, Arizona (unrestricted): His productivity declined last season but the eighth year veteran is still a good leader.

Damien Robinson, New York Jets (released salary cap cut): He's a good pickup for a defense that relies on a lot of zone coverage.

Greg Wesley, Kansas City (restricted): Veteran leader would be a solid pickup for a team looking for toughness.
