The Oakland Raiders have acquired veteran quarterback and former first round pick Jason Campbell from the Washington Redskins. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Redskins will receive Oakland's fourth round pick in 2012.
Campbell was quick to comment about the trade, saying that he had already spoken with Raiders owner Al Davis.
"I talked to Al Davis, and he said he wants me there. That means a lot to me."
Campbell was rumored to be on his way out of Washington after the team acquired six-time Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb from the Philadelphia Eagles on April 4th.
"Sometimes change comes in your life, change comes in your career, and you've just got to be ready to adapt. I'm going to go out to Oakland and give 110 percent and do everything I can to help that organization become a winning team."
In 52 career games (all starts), Campbell has thrown for 10,860 yards and 55 touchdowns to 38 interceptions. However, Campbell's career record as a starter stands at 20-32.
The addition of Campbell is the second move to add a quarterback within the month. The Raiders signed another former first round quarterback, Kyle Boller, to compete with the current stable of Bruce Gradkowski, JaMarcus Russell, and Charlie Frye. Recently, Gradkowski had surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle he suffered on Wednesday.
The move to acquire Campbell is yet another sign that the Raiders have all but given up on 2007's first overall pick, JaMarcus Russell. Before the Campbell trade, Russell was considered second to Gradkowski on the quarterback depth chart.
The trade is the second major move of the day, as the Raiders also sent veteran linebacker Kirk Morrison to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for the 108th pick of this year's draft. The pick was used to select Clemson wide receiver Jacoby Ford.
