The Oakland Raiders closed out a big day with four picks, all on the defensive side of the ball, in the final three rounds of the 2010 NFL Draft.
In the fifth round, with the 138th overall pick, the team took cornerback Walter McFadden out of Auburn University. McFadden was ranked as the No. 32 cornerback in the draft, according to Scout.com. After redshirting his freshman year, McFadden played in 49 games for the next four seasons, compiling 49 tackles and picking off 9 passes. In his senior season alone, McFadden had 6 interceptions. McFadden adds depth to the Raiders' secondary and should challenge Stanford Routt for the third cornerback spot.
In the sixth round, the Raiders took Arizona State linebacker Travis Goethel with the 190th overall pick. Goethel played four seasons for the Sun Devils and was never redshirted. He finished his collegiate career with 223 total tackles, two sacks, and three interceptions. With the team's trade of veteran linebacker Kirk Morrison, Goethel adds depth to the unit, but is also viewed as potentially a solid contributor on special teams.
With the team's first seventh round pick, 215th overall, the Raiders selected cornerback Jeremy Ware out of Michigan State. As a fifth-year senior last season, Ware finally became a starter for the Spartans and contributed a career-high 52 tackles, two sacks, five pass break-ups, and added an interception. Ware is a physical defender at cornerback and excels against the run.
The Raiders made Michigan safety Steve Brown their final pick of the 2010 NFL draft, at No. 251. Brown is rated the 42nd best safety, according to Scout.com, but he finished his career at Michigan as a strongside linebacker. Brown was a two-year starter for the Wolverines, and was elected team captain his senior season. Also in his senior year, Brown was the recipient of the Roger Zatkoff Award as Michigan's top linebacker.
