-Nnamdi Asomugha has been campaigning for some more freedom in the defensive backfield, and so far, he's been shown that freedom. More so than in years previous, Asomugha has been moved to different spots on the field, other than his usual place on the left.
"There's been more of a feeling where people are listening. We're doing more things, and I love it."
Left, right, inside and outside, Asomugha just wants to be in positions where he can make a play.
Said the three-time Pro Bowl cornerback, "I've been playing all over the field pretty much. I've been inside, I've been outside, both sides. It looks like it won't be a thing that's selective based off who we're playing. It's just going to be a thing that we can do whenever we want. It's part of the package, and that's great. It gets me more involved."
-With the Raiders' first preseason game coming up this Thursday, there might not be a guy who is more excited and grateful for the opportunity than undrafted rookie free agent Alex Daniels. Daniels, who has moved from defensive end to fullback, has definitely gotten the attention of the coaching staff, and is doing everything he can to secure a place on the roster.
"It's just a blessing coming true," said Daniels. "I just always wanted to play in the NFL, no matter how I got there." On having to face Cowboys' outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware, Daniels was just as enthusiastic.
"If I've got to push DeMarcus down the field 20 yards, I'm going to keep pushing him. I'm going to keep pushing him, I'm going to keep pushing him, until the whistle blows, then I'll stop. Then I'll come back to the huddle and I'll do it again."
If that's not enough for you, Daniels offered to treat the media to donuts if he makes the Raiders' roster. Said Daniels, "the media is what makes you … it's a blessing to be with y'all."
-Head Coach Tom Cable went down the players who will not be available for the first preseason game in Dallas. QB Charlie Frye (wrist), QB Bruce Gradkowski (groin), RB Darren McFadden (hamstring), FB Luke Lawton (concussion), WR Chaz Schilens (foot), Jacoby Ford (quad), WR Paul Hubbard (hamstring), and DE Jay Richardson (knee).
