Rams Day 16 Camp Report
Defensive tackle Michael Brockers returned to practice and participated in team drills. Right guard Rodger Saffold did some individual work but not any team drills. Middle linebacker James Laurinaitis did some running work. “Brock (Michael Brockers) came back and finished up and was good,” Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. “Rodger (Saffold) got involved in a lot of the individual stuff, which was good. Janoris (Jenkins) as we expected back. Kadeem (Jones) looks like he’s on the road to recovery. It looks like he’ll be full speed tomorrow. So it’s good to get some guys back.” The coach said Brockers, who lined up with the first-team unit with Kendall Langford at the other defensive tackle spot, looked like he hadn’t been hurt. Fisher said Laurinaitis has not been ruled out for this week’s game. “He’s turned the corner,” Fisher said. “He was moving pretty well out there.” Also returning to practice from injuries were offensive lineman Brandon Washington and safety Matt Daniels. • Left tackle Jake Long continued to take all of his normal reps with the first-team offense. When asked a question about Greg Robinson playing guard or tackle on Saturday, like the rookie lineman has in the first two preseason games, Fisher said there was a “good possibility” Long will play this week. “With a good possibility that Jake (Long) plays this week, he’ll (Robinson) go to guard when Jake’s in the game,” Fisher said. “When Jake comes out, we’ll still continue to work (Robinson) at tackle.” • Among the players who did not practice on Tuesday were linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar, cornerbacks E.J. Gaines, Brandon McGee and Darren Woodard, offensive lineman Barrett Jones, Demetrius Rhaney and Mike Person, defensive tackle Matt Conrath and defensive end Sammy Brown. • Isiah Robertson, a former Rams’ linebacker, visited practice on Tuesday. “What an honor to have him in the building and out to practice,” Fisher said. “He’ll be out here for a couple days.” Robertson, 65, was a first-round pick (No. 10 overall) of the Rams in 1971 and played eight seasons with the Rams and four with the Bills. He was the AP defensive rookie of the year in 1971, was selected for six Pro Bowls and was a two-time first-team All-Pro (1973, 1976). “Really, really a great career,” Fisher said. “You talk about his numbers and the stats and everything. I remember watching him.” • One of the top performers on Tuesday was cornerback Jarrid Bryant, an undrafted rookie from South Dakota who intercepted two passes during 11-on-11 team drills. Bryant picked off a tipped pass from Shaun Hill and then snatched a Garrett Gilbert pass intended for Jordan Harris. • Gilbert did have a couple nice passes. He connected with undrafted rookie tight end Alex Bayer on a crossing route and later hooked up with Austin Franklin deep down the left sideline.
