Cal QB Jared Goff was officially taken No. 1 overall by the Rams at tonight's NFL Draft. Watch as the young signal-caller hears his lifelong dream come true, when Roger Goodell called out his name for the first selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. For his part, Goff said he up for the challenge. He built a strong relationship with GM Les Snead and HC Jeff Fisher throughout the entire process. The Rams were won over by Goff's approach to his preparation.
The expectations for Goff will be high. The Rams gave up a first-round pick, two second-round picks, and two third-round picks. To be fair the Rams had been trying to build a team through draft and development for the past several years and they never progressed beyond the 7-9 threshold. This led Snead and Fisher to evaluate their position in the off-season and a trade talks kicked off at the NFL Combine.
With no picks until the fourth round, the Rams will now step back into the War Room to decide how best to address the holes on the roster. The Rams are still in need of a premier wide receiver and help in the secondary. They could also use a field-stretching tight end, which may prove easier to get in the later rounds. Like most things with the LA Rams in the 2016 NFL Draft, this is wait and see.
