In the last couple of days surrounding the Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas has feed into the significant interest in rookie quarterback @jared goff getting his first NFL start against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon.
The over/under betting line for Goff in regards to total passing yards is set at 230.5. Las Vegas has also placed 3/2 odds that Goff throws more than 1.5 touchdowns along with 5/9 odds on him getting under that total. There is also an over/under mark at 20.5 completions for the game while favoring 5/9 that he will throw at least one interception against 3/2 that he will not.
Goff will have a tough first challenge in his first start of his career against the Dolphins, who rank ninth against the pass, tied for sixth in interceptions (nine), 10th in opposing quarterback rating (86.3), and seventh in opposing quarterback completion percentage (61.2). Things have only ramped up during their current four-game win streak as Miami has forced nine turnovers and registered 12 sacks over that span.
Much of the Rams' success against the Dolphins could lie on the shoulders of Todd Gurley, who has struggled tremendous through the first nine games of the season. He has failed to rush for 100 or more yards in any contest while recording fewer than 70 rushing yards in all but two games along. This includes failing to reach the end zone in each of those such contests.
Gurley currently ranks 17th in rushing yards (515), 40th in yards per carry (3.1), 22th in yards per game (57.2), and has yet to record a rush for 20 or more yards. However, he could finally break through against Miami, who are 30th in the NFL in rushing yards allowing 128.8 per game.
The Rams may have snapped their four-game skid last Sunday topping the New York Jets 9-6, but there doesn't appear to be much optimism coming from Las Vegas. They have seen their Super Bowl odds increase from 200/1 to 150/1, which is still ninth-lowest in the NFL. They also experienced a similar minor uptick better in the NFC Championship picture rising from 75/1 to 66/1, which is only higher than the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers.
That said, Los Angeles did not receive that same rise in the NFC West division race as their odds dropped from 16/1 to 20/1 despite just getting their fourth win of the season. In fact, the Seattle Seahawks have become a virtual lock in the betting world to win the divison for the third time in the last four years currently standing at 1/5 odds.
What also doesn't help the Rams' case in their hunt for their first NFC West division title in the last 13 years is their remaining regular season. They still have games against the likes of the Seahawks, New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons, and Arizona Cardinals. Keep in mind, all but the Cardinals currently lead their respective divisions.
Los Angeles can continue to steer the ship in the right direction on Sunday against the Dolphins with an opportunity to get back to a .500 record for the first time in nearly a month.
