Rams signed former Lions and Saints DT Tyrunn Walker, per source.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 23, 2017
The 27-year-old has spent the last two years with the Detroit Lions. He started eight games in the 2016 season recording 26 tackles with one fumble recovery. He had started the first four games of the previous campaign before suffering a broken fibula and a dislocated ankle that abruptly ended his year.
Prior to that, Walker played his first three years in the league with the New Orleans Saints racking up 28 tackles with 3.5 sacks over that span after going undrafted out of Tulsa in the 2012 NFL Draft.
His addition to the Rams provides more depth up on the defensive front behind the likes of All-Pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers. He will likely compete for playing time against the likes of Dominique Easley, Ethan Westbrooks, Matt Longacre, and Morgan Fox.
Los Angeles is expected to shift to the 3-4 defensive scheme under new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips this upcoming season.
