Rams Sign Alexander

The St. Louis Rams signed rookie free agent wide receiver Danario Alexander on Sunday and released wide receiver Brooks Foster.

Alexander received a phone call from his agent on Saturday night and was told to prepare for a flight to St. Louis on Sunday morning with the expectation that he would work on for the Rams on Monday.

"I'm pretty excited," Alexander said Sunday by phone while waiting for his flight to St. Louis. "I've been working out and rehabbing and for me to get the opportunity this weekend, it's a pretty big deal."

Instead, Alexander, who took a physical for St. Louis on August 2, worked out for the team not long after his flight arrived on Sunday, impressed the team and signed a two-year deal, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, a few hours later.

The 6-foot-5, 221-pound Alexander, who turned 22 two weeks ago, was one of the top playmakers in the country a year ago when he recorded 113 receptions for 1,781 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He had surgery in February to repair cartilage damage in his knee and was not drafted. He held hold a pro-day style workout at the end of July and reportedly recorded a time of 4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

With the addition of Alexander and the release of Foster, a second-year wide receiver out of the University of North Carolina who was a fifth-round pick in 2009, the Rams have 10 wide receivers on their 80-player training camp roster.

GridironGateway.com will have more on Alexander following his first practice with the Rams on Monday afternoon.
