Iowa State Pro-Day

Several scouts made their way out Ames, Iowa today to test the few prospects offered by the Iowa State Cyclones. High on the list of potential pro-prospects were Seneca Wallace, Jeremy Loyd and someone we have not heard much from lately, Matt Word.

Approximately seven NFL teams were there to take in the proceedings and they saw some good performances. Like the Senior Bowl and combine, the spotlight was on Seneca Wallace, who threw well today. Overall his accuracy was on the mark as scouts had him throw mainly outs and crossing patterns. When it came time to test his arm strength Wallace tossed the ball 55-yards in a stationary position.

Jeremy Loyd improved his combine numbers running a pair of 40's in 4.53 and 4.58, completing 20 repetitions on the bench and turning in a 36-inch vertical jump.

Offensive lineman Zach Butler measured in at 293-pounds, completed 28-reps on the bench but ran poorly at a 5.28-forty and produced only a 25.5-inch vertical.

Onto Matt Word, a highly ranked but seemingly forgotten defender. Measuring in as a cut 5-11/232, Word timed a 4.56/4.59 in his forties, ran a combined 4.03 short shuttle and 6.92 cone. Of all the teams in attendance the Carolina Panthers seemed most interested in his services.

Our belief is Word is best off as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense or could even more to strong safety. Regardless, we feel he'll be a knockout player on special teams.
