OWINGS MILLS, Md. — In the first true falter of the kicking competition, Billy Cundiff missed two easy field goals in perfect weather. The first miss was wide left from 24 yards. The second miss went wide right from 34 yards. Harbaugh explained what happened on the first miss.
"That was a real high snap, so that threw his timing off, and Billy was out in front of it," he said. "I think sometimes when you have bad conditions, the kicker will slow down to account for the possibility of a bad snap plus a plant foot sliding. So, a high snap like that in good conditions, he really didn't expect that he was out in front of it, and that's why he missed it. You still need to make it, but it makes it tougher."
Cundiff finished the day five-for-eight on field goals. Conversely, rookie Justin Tucker made six of seven with a long of 52.
Bobbie Williams rests ankle
With left guard Bobbie Williams resting the ankle he broke last December, the offensive line moved some pieces around during Monday's practice.
Bryant McKinnie jumped back up to the starting left tackle position he's accustomed to playing. Michael Oher moved back to right tackle and Kelechi Osemele moved to fill in for Williams at left guard.
Coach John Harbaugh said Williams' ankle swelled up and that he'll have Monday and Tuesday to rest it.
"(Williams) really has been working hard, but he needs it and it will be good for him," Harbaugh said. "It will help him. So, now you have an opportunity with that spot there to roll some guys in and move some guys around. It works out real well."
Back from injury
Wide receiver Tandon Doss (hamstring), cornerback Chykie Brown (hamstring) and offensive lineman Jah Reid (calf) were back at practice Monday. Reid played the most, stepping in at second team right guard. Doss and Brown appeared to be limited.
LG Bobbie Williams (ankle), TE Ed Dickson (shoulder), WR Jacoby Jones (leg), WR David Reed (ACL), CB Asa Jackson (hamstring), LB Josh Bynes (vertebrae), TE Dennis Pitta (hand), DE Pernell McPhee (knee), LB Darryl Blackstock (groin), OLB Terrell Suggs (Achilles), WR Devin Goda (undisclosed) and DT Ryan McBean (broken ankle) did not practice.
