OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Though the Ravens defeated Dallas 31-29 on Sunday, the organization received news that it lost two of its best defensive players for the season on Monday.
Ray Lewis suffered a complete tear of his right triceps muscle in the fourth quarter against Dallas. In the first quarter, Lardarius Webb tore his left ACL.
Webb has now torn both ACLs as he previously injured his right one in December of 2009.
Coach John Harbaugh expressed disappointment over losing both Lewis and Webb for the season.
"These are guys that put so much effort, heart and soul into what they do," Harbaugh said. "Lardarius, yesterday, was distraught. I could see it when I walked on the field.
"Ray, in the locker room afterwards, we didn't know, but he was worried about it. He said some things about his faith. He goes back to his faith and he said some things that I'll never forget."
Harbaugh said he received the news about Lewis about five minutes before his Monday press conference that took place at 4 p.m. With Webb, it was pretty clear what had happened on Sunday when Harbaugh announced that an ACL tear is what the injury looked like.
With Lewis out, Jameel McClain will move over to the Mike inside linebacker position. Dannell Ellerbe will now start at the Will inside linebacker position.
Cornerback Jimmy Smith will step into the starting lineup in Baltimore's base defense, with Corey Graham becoming the nickel back. Harbaugh said rookie Asa Jackson could factor in at the nickel position as well.
