Receiver Depth Chart Jumbled

The Ravens reorganized their depth chart at receiver before Thursday's preseason game against Carolina.

Baltimore's receiver group has been murky all preseason.

Outside of Torrey Smith, no one has emerged with the first team. It's one of the reasons the Ravens decided to grab 37-year-old Brandon Stokley from free agency.

The Ravens need help at receiver. Otherwise, there may be a lot of Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce in the running game this season.

Perhaps in an attempt to put some of the younger receivers on notice, the Ravens switched up the depth chart. Here it is as follows:

First team: Torrey Smith, Jacoby Jones.

Second team: Brandon Stokley, Tandon Doss.

Third team: Deonte Thompson, Tommy Streeter, LaQuan Williams, Rashaad Carter.

Fourth team: David Reed, Marlon Brown, Aaron Mellette, Gerrard Sheppard.

The lone consistencies on the depth chart have Torrey Smith and Jones with the first team, and Doss with the second team.

Thompson moved down from the second team and Streeter moved up to the third team from the fourth team. Reed and Brown were also on the third team and have been demoted.

Carter's presence on the third team is surprising since a ton of focus has been placed on guys listed below him now.

The depth chart is something the Ravens' public relations staff puts out on their own and without influence from the coaches -- or at least they say.

Though the depth chart appears more confusing than it was when training camp opened, it should be settled soon. The first cutdown is next Tuesday, with teams needing to trim down to their 53-man rosters once the preseason is finished.
