The Ravens out-gained the Panthers in almost every statistical category except two: The scoreboard and in the turnover column.
Carolina used four Baltimore turnovers to their advantage in defeating the Ravens 34-27 Thursday night. This was the third preseason game for both teams.
The Ravens totaled 357 yards to Carolina's 173. Yet the Panthers took two interceptions for touchdowns and recovered another fumble for a score.
Carolina also received a 74-yard punt return for a touchdown from Ted Ginn, Jr. in the first quarter.
The Ravens offense opened on fire, moving the ball down the field 69 yards on nine plays, capped with a 1-yard touchdown run from running back Ray Rice.
From there, it was inconsistent at best.
Quarterback Joe Flacco threw two interceptions, the first coming on miscommunication with receiver Tandon Doss. Flacco signaled for an out-route and Doss ran an out-and-up. The pass was then open for Drayton Florence to intercept it for a 71-yard touchdown.
On Baltimore's next drive, linebacker Luke Kuechly hit Bernard Pierce and forced a fumble. Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis recovered it and scored a 2-yard touchdown.
Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor later threw an interception that D.J. Moore returned 33 yards for a touchdown.
Conversely, the Panthers, albeit sluggish on offense at times, did not turn the ball over once.
Flacco finished the game 18-24 for 169 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. His top target was undrafted rookie receiver Marlon Brown, who came down with four catches for 59 yards and a touchdown, all with the first team.
