The Ravens released linebacker Jameel McClain and fullback Vonta Leach on Thursday, a move that will give the organization some immediate cap savings.
Heading into the 2014 season, McClain carried a $3.2 million cap figure and Leach had a $1.75 million one.
In total, the move saves the Ravens $4.95 million for the 2014 season. Though it's not official, reports have indicated the salary cap could be as high as $132 million this year.
McClain signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He worked his way up to being a starting inside linebacker and signed a three-year, $10.5 million contract after the 2011 season.
He wound up taking a pay cut in 2013, earning $1.5 million.
The Ravens signed Leach prior to the 2011 season and the bruising fullback helped pave the way for the running game's successes in his first two seasons.
After being brought back following a release during the 2013 offseason, Leach saw his playing time diminish drastically, with the Ravens' running game struggling throughout.
Via the team's official twitter account, Ravens general manager offered a statement on releasing both players.
"Vonta and Jameel are two of our most important players over the last few seasons," Newsome said. "Vonta proved to be one of the best FBs in the league, plus he added leadership and toughness to our offense. Jameel is a Ravens' success story who came to us as a rookie free agent. "There could come a point later on when we would consider bringing back Vonta and Jameel. They are our types of players."
