Ravens avoid upset, beat Jaguars 20-12

The Ravens defeated the Jaguars 20-12 in a tougher-than-expected game Sunday afternoon.

It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win.

The Ravens defeated the Jaguars at home 20-12 in a game that was much tougher than many anticipated. Both teams' defenses came to play and stifled what each team wanted to do offensively.

The Ravens' front seven did a lot of damage on Jacksonville, notching eight sacks. Terrell Suggs picked up 2.5 and Timmy Jernigan recorded two. Elvis Dumervil picked up his 17th sack of the season by getting one.

The Ravens scored first with a blocked punt from safety Darian Stewart. Receiver Kamar Aiken scooped it up and scored a touchdown.

The Ravens didn't score again until after the Jaguars scored nine unanswered points with three field goals. Tucker hit a 22-yard field goal to put Baltimore up 10-9. However, another field goal from Jacksonville's Josh Scobee gave the Jaguars a 12-10 halftime lead.

Tight end Owen Daniels scored a three-yard touchdown in the third quarter to put the Ravens up 17-12. Tucker, who missed two field goals from 54 yards out, added a late field goal from 33 yards out.

The win keeps the Ravens very much alive in the postseason race, even though both the Steelers and Bengals scored wins today.
