Jason Butt: The good news first — Urban is 100 percent at this time and good to go. Lewis-Moore is not 100 percent but is getting close. Both are obviously coming off of ACL tears. Now the OK news — Smith and Wagner, both recovering from Lisfranc sprains, are not ready to practice without restriction at this time. However, the outlook is still promising for training camp at this time. Now the bad news — Brooks is not ready and may not be ready this season. He will definitely start the year on the PUP list and miss six games. He’s likely to miss more and could sit out the entire year.
JB: At this time, from what I’ve been told, Dennis Pitta is unlikely to play for the Ravens again, even with an injury waiver. The Ravens just aren’t likely to clear him based on the likelihood of re-injury. It would be a major surprise if Pitta suits up as a member of the Ravens again.
SalvadorsDeli: Do the Ravens envision Terrence Brooks making his way back into the starting lineup at some point this season? Or do they believe Kendrick Lewis will be the full-time starter opposite Will Hill at safety?
JB: Even if Brooks makes a ton of progress to the point where he only misses the Ravens’ first six games, Lewis is the projected full-time starter at safety this season. Brooks isn’t expected to be back after six games and therefore that’s why the Ravens needed a safety in the first place. Instead of the revolving door of interchangeable safeties a year ago, it should be Hill and Lewis out there. That said, Lewis is seen as an upgrade for the spot at this time.
angelica4: What is the projected starting secondary look like?
RoflDogs: Who's going to be the surprise cut this training camp?
JB: This is a tough one to answer right now given the uncertainty of what will transpire this August. But if I had to guess it would be DeAngelo Tyson. It’s not that he can’t play the position, it’s just the Ravens have done a good job at stockpiling depth on the defensive line. He very well could be the odd man out.
Bilbo2: Punt/kickoff returner — Michael Campanaro or an UDFA?
JB: Campanaro is the front-runner to win the punt returner job. He had that experience at Wake Forest and the team likes his hands for that role. As for kickoff returner it’s wide open right now. If DeAndre Carter makes the team he could very well win that job. But nothing has been decided there and this training camp should feature some great competition for the spot.
