Five subplots to observe for Ravens-Giants

Five subplots to observe in the upcoming Ravens - Giants game on Thursday night...

1. Quarterback watch: Who's going to ultimately win this derby between incumbent Chris Redman and rookie challenger Kyle Boller?

Will Boller start for the second consecutive week and play well enough to supplant Redman? Will Redman throw his first touchdown of the preseason and begin to establish the continuity this offense has been seeking for years?

2. Who will make this football team? The Ravens trim their roster down to 53 players on Sunday, and will establish a five-member practice squad next week. There are roughly a dozen players competing for five or six remaining spots on the active roster.

Among those vying for jobs: defensive linemen Nate Bolling, Aubrayo Franklin, Joe Salave'a and Riddick Parker; defensive backs Raymond Walls and Alvin Porter; linebackers Johnny Rutledge and Chris Brown; offensive linemen Jason Thomas and Damion Cook along with fullback Ovie Mughelli, running back Ryan Brewer and receiver Marc Lester attempting to crack the roster.

3. Will veteran receiver Marcus Robinson regain some of his previous Pro Bowl alternate form after a preseason even he terms as "terrible" thus far?

4. Will return specialist Lamont Brightful alleviate the coaching staff's concerns about his reliability one week after fumbling a punt away against the Redskins?

5. Will the defense rebound from a subpar game? Will first-round draft pick Terrell Suggs assert himself as a situational pass rusher behind starting left outside linebacker Adalius Thomas?
