Younger Fassel won't join Ravens

John Fassel declined an offer to join his father Jim Fassel as an offensive assistant on the Ravens' coaching staff after meeting with coach Brian Billick this weekend.

Fassel will remain the head coach at New Mexico Highlands, a Division II program that went 0-10 last season in his first year.

Jim Fassel, the former New York Giants coach, was added as a senior consultant last week.

"John's a good young man and he's got some things started at New Mexico Highlands," Billick said Monday afternoon. "I think he's firm on not coming. They've made some commitments to him and he felt like he needed to live up to that obligation."

Billick said he will continue to search for an offensive assistant and has a few names in mind, but said he won't necessarily fill that spot.
