Chuck Thompson dies at 83

BALTIMORE - Chuck Thompson, Hall of Fame broadcaster and Baltimore sports legend, famous for the on-air catchphrase 'Ain't the beer cold', died this Sunday morning at 8:17. He was 83.

According to Thompson's family, he suffered a massive stroke at his home on Saturday. He was rushed from his house in the Timonium area to GBMC where he was kept on a respirator.

Chuck who was the play-by-play announcer for the Baltimore Colts for 30 years and called the Baltimore Orioles games for almost 50, was best known by his catchprases 'Go to war Miss Agnes' and 'Ain't the beer cold' the latter which went on to be the title of his 1996 autobiography.

Chuck was recently diagnosed with some short term memory loss and had had macular degeneration for several years, a condition that sadly prevented him from calling games.

The staff and members of Ravens Insider extend their deepest sympathies to the Thompson Family. He was truly a Baltimore legend and will be sorely missed.
