Ravens sign LB Jim Nelson

OWINGS MILLS – The Baltimore Ravens signed another local linebacker, inking McDonogh School graduate Jim Nelson to a one-year contract for the veteran minimum salary.

A week ago, the Ravens signed Baltimore native Tommy Polley to a one-year deal to start at weakside linebacker. Nelson is likely to play a reserve role and be used heavily on special teams.

Nelson played 15 games last season for the Indianapolis Colts, registering a career-high 64 tackles, two pass deflections and an interception.

Nelson played collegiately at Penn State and has had prior stints with the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers in seven NFL seasons.

Nelson has played in 86 career games, starting four, and has 91 career special teams tackles.

Nelson will wear No. 56, and Polley was assigned No. 51.
