Reed Gets First Workout.

The Ravens added some depth Monday, but also had some players subtracted. First-round pick Ed Reed got his first training camp workout as a pro after ending his 10-day holdout on Saturday. But because of his holdout, the safety worked almost exclusively with the third unit, got hazed, and even had a lemon meringue pie smushed in his face.

The pie episode came at the end of the day while Reed was giving a live television interview. Cornerback Chris McAlister snuck up on the youngster and slammed a pie in his face. Earlier, McAlister ridiculed Reed's singing efforts at supper and said Reed might have to repeat the performance until his voice improves.

Ravens head coach Brian Billick said the rookie can expect the rough treatment and to continue working with the subs until he shows he's in football shape and knows the playbook.

But as Reed came in, starting cornerback Gary Baxter and de-facto starting safety Chad Williams both left practice with leg injuries. Baxter was the more serious with a pulled hamstring. He'll miss Tuesday's workouts and both wil be listed as day to day.

The Ravens also signed veteran linebacker Bernardo Harris to back up Ray Lewis and Edgerton Hartwell at the inside linebacker spots. Harris won a Super Bowl with the Packers in 1996.
