Time to regroup

Just one week of the 2007 NFL season are in the books and we have witnessed a number of season ending injuries and a life threatening one. Not too mention, the Baltimore Ravens took one in the chin with a heartbreaking loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night that was full of turnovers and penalties.

With only five days to rest before playing the New York Jets on Sunday the Ravens may be without their key players due to injuries. It has been already confirmed that kick/punt returner B.J. Sams is out for the year due to an ACL injury to his knee and offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden had re-injured his toe and left the game early Monday night.

Most likely Ogden could be lost for the entire season, the team could also lose quarterback Steve McNair to a groin injury and Ray Lewis for a possible triceps tear. Tight end Daniel Wilcox and his left ankle sustained the least of the injuries.

Putting everything into perspective will mean the Ravens would start Adam Terry at left tackle and rookie third-round pick Marshal Yanda at right tackle. The big question is whether or not quarterback Steve McNair will be healthy enough for their home opener against the Jets. Not too mention finding out the severity of Ray Lewis' injury, which has been diagnosed as a strained triceps that will likely not keep him out Sunday. It is definitely time to regroup and eliminate the mistakes made on Monday night. The Ravens must rebound with a dominating performance on both sides of the ball. The Jets will be coming into this game with a loss to their record as well.

It will be very interesting to see how head coach Brian Billick handles the loss of key personnel. Will he continue to have safety Ed Reed fielding the return duties or will this year's draft pick Yamon Figurs start taking over the duties? And Figurs is primed to take over with some help from Cory Ross.

There are a lot of questions and concerns but we all know the Ravens will find the answers when they take the field on Sunday.
