Darrius Heyward-Bey Q&A

COLLEGE PARK -- Will Spencer talks football with University of Maryland blue-chip wide receiver prospect Darrius Heyward-Bey. Subscribers, please keep reading for further details of this Q&A with this first-round prospect. Could he be the answer to the Ravens' need for a deep threat?

Spencer: What all will you be participating in today?

DHB: I'm just doing wide receiver drills.

Spencer: Have any particular NFL teams jumped out at you as having more interest than others?

DHB: They've all shown interest. Everybody's coming. They just want to get to know me a little bit better.

Spencer: What's the strongest aspect of your game?

DHB: Just being able to make big plays. Being able to turn a hitch into a touchdown. Being able to change the momentum of the game

Spencer: Are there any aspects of your game that you feel you need to improve on?

DHB: Everybody needs to work on their knowledge of the game and just get better at route running.

Spencer: Are there any NFL wide receivers that you try to style your play after or you look up to?

DHB: I just try to take little things from different people, like Roddy White and Brandon Marshall. You know, I look at them, you know, Brandon Marshall doesn't like to be taken down on the first contact, so I like to put that into my game. Roddy White, he makes plays down the field. And of course, Jerry Rice. You gotta play like Jerry Rice. I wouldn't say I play like anybody. I just take bits and pieces and mold it into my own.

Spencer: Do you have any draft day plans yet?

DHB: Right now, I don't know. I don't know what I'm gonna do for draft day. I might be home, chilling. Who knows?

Spencer: Do you have any specific goals for the draft? For example, being taken in the first round.

DHB: Just having the opportunity to play in the NFL. That's it.

Spencer: Are there any offensive systems out there you'd like to play in, or quarterbacks you'd like to play with?

DHB: All the quarterbacks in the NFL look good to me, so it doesn't matter to me. Just to have the opportunity to be out there, and once the ball is in the air, you've just got to make a play on it. So it doesn't matter what offense it is or who the quarterback is, or anything like that. I'll be coming in as a rookie, I'll have no say.

Spencer: Do you have a particular play or game that you feel defines you as a player?

DHB: I could look at the Miami game my freshman year. Winning two bowl games with my teammates. That's been probably the biggest thing because we all went to the bowl games together, we're all around each other. You know, we're 2 and 1 in bowl games, so that was great.

Spencer: What was your major at Maryland?

DHB: American Studies.

Spencer: If you weren't playing football, what do you think you'd be doing?

DHB: Probably get into film school and try to get into directing.

Spencer: Thanks for your time. Good luck today, and in the draft!
