Rookie Reviews: Week 2

The final scores are in the book and Draft Breakdown is here to update you on how some of the top rookies in the 2009 draft performed in week 2 of the NFL season.

Eric Wood and Andy Levitre – OGs – Bills
Gotta give some love to the offensive linemen. The Bills have been heavily criticized this year for starting so many new players on the o-line. This week, the Bills young guards dominated the line of scrimmage against Tampa Bay. Buffalo racked up 438 total yards of offense which included 218 rushing yards and 220 passing yards in their 33-20 win.

Johnny Knox – WR – Bears
After a poor performance the week before against the Packers, not many expected the Bears to beat the defending Super Bowl Champions this week. In the pouring rain, the speedy WR from Abilene-Christian grabbed 6 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown in a close 17-14 win. Knox also returned two kicks for 20 yards in the win.

Knowshon Moreno – RB – Broncos
The Broncos were riding high after their miracle win against Cincinnati last week. Moreno came into this game healthier than last week and got plenty of touches. The former Georgia running back carried the ball 17 times for 75 yards, adding two catches for 22 yards to his stats.

Julian Edelman – WR – Patriots
Filling in for Wes Welker is no easy task; especially when you've only played quarterback the past several years. The former Kent State QB got the ball plenty of times against a tough Jets defense this week, catching the ball 8 times for 98 yards in the loss. Edelman also returned 2 kickoffs for 19 yards and 1 punt for 2 yards.

Percy Harvin – WR – Vikings
The Vikings offense continued to roll this week against the Detroit Lions. Minnesota is staying consistent, getting the ball in Harvin's hands ten times in the game. Harvin had 5 catches for 41 yards and a touchdown, 2 runs for 14 yards and 3 kick returns for 26 yards.

Matthew Stafford – QB – Lions
While Stafford had a rough game against the Vikings defense, he did get his first career touchdown pass this week. Stafford finished the game 18 of 30 for 152 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs.

Brandon Pettigrew – TE – Lions
The former Cowboy came to life this week, catching 4 passes for 40 yards in the loss to Minnesota. As Stafford and Pettigrew get more work this season, look for even more connections between the two. A good pass-catching tight end is a young quarterback's best friend.

Mark Sanchez – QB – Jets
Once again, I have to mention Sanchez. After getting off to a rocky start (fumble on first pass attempt), the former Trojan began to settle in with the offense. This wasn't a high scoring game but Sanchez certainly got more defensive looks in this game than most QBs get in 4 weeks. The Patriots threw the kitchen sink at Sanchez, and he responded by going 14 of 22 for 163 yards and 1 TD in the big win. Sanchez is making an early push for rookie of the year consideration.
