Rookie Reviews: Week 6

The final scores are in the books and Draft Breakdown is here to update you on how some of the top rookies in the 2009 draft performed in week 6 of the NFL season.

Brian Cushing – LB – Texans
Cushing is quietly having a very strong rookie season for Houston. This week, the Texans matched up with a Bengals team that had been on a winning streak. Cushing sealed a Houston victory with an interception on the Bengals final drive in the 4th quarter, and added 9 tackles and 2 forced fumbles to his stat totals.

Clay Matthews – OLB – Packers
Another former Trojan defender, Matthews is starting to get comfortable in his role for the Packers. Green Bay rolled over the Lions this week, and Matthews had a solid game on the defensive side of the ball. Clay finished the game with 5 tackles and 2 sacks, giving him 3 for the season.

Hakeem Nicks – WR – Giants
The Giants found themselves in a shoot out with the Saints, but came up short in the end. However, Nicks provided another strong performance and is helping Giants fans forget about that Plaxico guy. Nicks finished the game with 5 catches for 114 yards and a touchdown, and now has a touchdown in each of the last three games.

Patrick Chung – S – Patriots
While most folks look at the Patriots thumping of the Titans this week and see all offense, the rookie out of Oregon had a solid game. Chung recorded his first career interception and added 6 tackles, helping the Patriots secure a shutout victory.

Mark Sanchez – QB – Jets
Almost every week so far this season, Sanchez has been included in our Rookie Reviews list for some solid performances. This week, however, was far from solid. Sanchez had his worst game as a pro, completing 10 of 29 passes for 119 yards, fumbling once and throwing a career high 5 interceptions, doubling his total for the season at that point.
