BALTIMORE RAVENS' REPORT CARD

Quarterback: D Joe Flacco was erratic, throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns and nearly had four interceptions if not for the Bengals dropping two potential picks. Flacco finished the game 18 of 32 for 195 yards and a season-low 48.3 passer rating. He warmed up in the second half, but was ultimately unable to overcome his first half: 4 for 9 for 27 yards, one interception and a 12.0 rating.

Running back: C-plus
Ray Rice scored the Ravens' lone touchdown, catching eight passes for 87 yards and rushing for 48 yards on 12 carries. He wasn't nearly as explosive as usual, and didn't have as much room to operate.

Receiver: D-plus
They didn't do a very good job of playing defensive back on Joe Flacco's errant throws. And they didn't make sound enough adjustments to coverage to present a target when plays broke down. Derrick Mason caught three passes for an uneventful 31 yards, three more than tight end Todd Heap.

Offensive line: D
Joe Flacco was under significant duress, sacked four times. Without a lot of holding, including two infractions called on offensive tackle Jared Gaither, it could have got even worse. They got pushed around upfront, failing to create seams for the running game.

Defensive line: C-minus
They didn't get enough penetration at the line of scrimmage, allowing Carson Palmer plenty of time to complete 20 of 33 passes for 224 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions for a 91.0 quarterback rating. Cedric Benson dented the defensive line, too. Dwan Edwards was a bright spot with eight tackles and two quarterback hits.

Linebacker: D-plus
Ray Lewis registered eight tackles, but hardly any of them made an impact as Cedric Benson gained 117 yards on 34 carries. Terrell Suggs had one sack, but the Ravens needed even more pressure out of him. Jarret Johnson had a quiet game with two tackles. The Bengals rushed for 146 yards.

Secondary: D
They got picked apart by Carson Palmer who completed 7 of his first 12 passes in the first quarter. In particular, they had trouble containing wide receivers Laveranues Coles (six catches, 72 yards) and Chad Ochocinco (five catches, 66 yards). Free safety Ed Reed's arm tackling issues are becoming a bigger problem. Rookie cornerback Lardarius Webb provided a boost in relief of an injured Fabian Washington with six tackles and one pass deflection.

Special teams: D-plus
Steve Hauschka missed his third field goal of the season, and it was a crucial miss from 38 yards that he hooked wide left. The fourth quarter field goal could have brought the Ravens to within seven points of the Bengals' lead. The Ravens never threatened again. Sam Koch averaged 49.8 yards per punt. And Lardarius Webb averaged 21.3 yards per kickoff return. The Ravens weren't able to get anything going on punt returns.
