And with that, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady moves up the fantasy football quarterback rankings (see below). Yes, he moves up a bunch.
Now that Brady is expected to play throughout the 2015 campaign starting with the NFL season opener Sept. 10 against Pittsburgh, he jumps from my Tier 3 -- between Eli Manning and Cam Newton -- to the larger Tier 2. Overall, Brady ranks sixth, just ahead of Drew Brees, Ryan Tannehill and Ben Roethlisberger.
Do I love Brady's receiving weapons besides Rob Gronkowski? No, not really. Brandon LaFell could start the season the PUP list, meaning Reggie Wayne and Danny Amendola are receivers two and three behind Julian Edelman. That's not great in 2015.
Not sure it matters. I'm buying into the pissed off Brady narrative. Also, Gronk does exist, but a high-end running back doesn't so expect hefty passing attempts. Biggest concern is who replaces Shane Vereen's pass catching role out of the backfield. Edelman's role certainly won't be reduced because of this uncertainty. If anything, he's WR2 in PPR formats.
Not sure it matters. Brady turns water into wine. Look at the suspect weapons he's won with over the years.
By the way, this doesn't change my general belief that waiting on QBs in draft is the right strategy. But when the time comes and Brady is still there, attack. You can bet he will this season.
- My latest fantasy article for CSNmidatlantic.com included some strategy talk on the Lions backfield, my go-to receiver targets for each tier and what to make of Jaguars tight end Julius Thomas. You can ignore the Brady part now.
- Speaking of fantasy, a reminder that I'm part of the weekly "FanDuel Fantasy Footbal Bonanza" podcast with Holden Kushner and DFS guru Chris Raybon. Would love it if you downloaded the podcast weekly on ITunes. Here is this week's show which started off with plenty of Kirk Cousins talk.
- Not fantasy related, but this is me on Washington's NewsChannel 8 talking about the Redskins QB situation. I was told I need a new tie.
- Last but not least, link to my fantasy rankings.
