Latest injury report packs scary punch as Redskins prepare for Jets defense

Injury updates on wide receiver DeSean Jackson plus two starters on the offensive line.

Some quick highlights from Redskins coach Jay Gruden's Thursday press conference:

If no go, Ty Nsekhe would slot in for Williams with Josh LeRibeus replacing Lichtensteiger. To say these absences, particulary WIlliams, would hurt the Redskins offense is the understatement of all understatements. The New York Jets boast one of the best defensive lines in the league and now get Pro Bowl tackle Sheldon Richardson back from suspension. Granted, Lichtensteiger isn't playing at a high level right now, which is one reason for the running game struggles. Still, the alternatives appear worse.

"Yeah, I think he had some issues in the game," Gruden said of his center's Week 5 performance whil battlingg injuries. "He fought through it. He didn't play his best game obviously and that was the main reason. He fought through it, man. Kory is one of toughest guys on this squad and you can see after watching the tape that something was wrong with him. So, we want to make sure he gets it right where he feels like he can help this football team. Hopefully seeing a doctor and some more treatment tomorrow and today, he'll be good enough to go."

  • Temper those expectations of a DeSean Jackson (hamstring) return this week.

Asked for clarification on the issues, Gruden said Jackson felt a "twinge" and the plan turned cautionary. The wise course of action involves letting Jackson's hamstring rest another week. Of course, at that point, perhaps kep hm out through the Week 8 at bye.No Jackson means more reps for the younger receivers, including speedster Rashad Ross. “He’s going to be a big part of our package moving forward,"Gruden said of Ross. "Especially if DeSean can’t go and if Andre [Roberts] has trouble with his quad. ... Rashad gives us a little bit of something that other guys don’t with the long speed. He’s getting more and more comfortable with the offense and he’s looking very good.”

  • Cornerback Chris Culliver (knee), tight end Jordan Reed (concussion) and cornerback DeAngelo Hall (toe) also did not practice. Here i the full injury report for both teams
