Ben Standig's mock draft for CSNmidatlantic.com: No. 8 to the Dolphins (2/14)
(Analysis of games vs. Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Alabama)
Positives: Vernon Hargreaves III is a silky, smooth cornerback who plays with fire and passion. His footwork in his back pedal, breaking on the ball and mirroring routes is excellent. He doesn't waste many steps. Hargreaves has great speed and his acceleration out of breaks is good. He plays both off and press coverage. In press coverage against bigger receivers, the Florida product will get physical in order to knock the receiver off his route. In press coverage against smaller more agile guys, Hargreaves will watch a guys hips and just mirror him eliminating chance of over extending and getting beat by trying to get his hands on him. He is also not afraid to make a hit.
Concerns: Hargreaves biggest concern is going to be about his height. Many people don't think he will measure the 5'11" he is listed at so that part of the combine will be huge for him. Every so often he can fall asleep on a play because he isn't always tested.
If drafted by Redskins: Hargreaves is the kind of player who adds attirude and swagger to a defense. His confidence is infectious much like Redskins CB Bashaud Breeland. If you put Hargreaves across from Breeland, you come another step closer to changing the culture of that defense. We'll see if he slips to 21, but it would be tough passing on him if he does.
