Norman: Joining playoff team was 'everything'

The San Francisco 49ers might have had money to spend on Josh Norman, but the Redskins had something they did not.

When the Carolina Panthers shocked the league by rescinding their non-exclusive franchise tag on Josh Norman, the Washington Redskins were not an obvious landing spot at first. In the cornerback's eyes, they should have been by the math alone.

The NFL is a league of 32 teams. Of those 32, 12 make the playoffs. Remove the Carolina Panthers, Norman's former team, and 11 are left, including the NFC East champion Redskins.

"Well, it was everything", Norman said about the importance of joining a playoff team.

Others coming off a postseason appearance pitched the "you know, we went to the playoffs, We've got some pieces in place," angle to Norman. It seems he only took that to heart when talking with the Redskins.

"I looked it at, the quarterback, franchise left tackle [Trent Williams], I mean, D-ends, defensive backs, wide receivers, I mean, running backs", Norman said Monday at his introductory press conference. "They’ve got pieces in place to be successful."

The All-Pro corner does not see the Redskins success from last season as a fluke because "they’ve got pieces in place to make a deep run."

General manager Scot McCloughan clearly sees Norman as another piece towards that Super Bowl puzzle.

One player that has Norman "super excited ... for what this team can do" is pass rusher Junior Galette coming back.

The buzz around the team of prolonged success "was a huge part of making my decision to come here", Norman revealed.

Norman understands that the Redskins getting a taste of post-season glory last season will motivate the players to go deeper and "see what happens."

"That's what we did in Carolina and I know we can do it here", said Norman about the metaphorical stepping stone to a Super Bowl appearance. "It's no difference."

"I’m just loving it up right now and can’t help to be a part of something that’s special and great because we on the rise, man", Norman passionately exclaimed. "Get on the train or not.”
