The NFL Draft is over and the work to get all the rookies ready for the NFL begins. For the Washington Redskins that means first round pick Josh Doctson and six other players selected in the 2016 draft. The same scenario exists for the other 31 NFL teams of which the Redskins will face 13 including each NFC East rival twice. Let's begin taking a look at the interesting matchups and scenarios involving the new guys.
Who: Carolina Panthers
When: Week 15: Monday, December 19 at 8:30 pm on ESPN
Where: FedEx Field
* 1st round -- Vernon Butler, DT, Louisiana Tech
* 2nd round -- James Bradberry, CB, Samford
* 3rd round -- Daryl Worley, CB, West Virginia
Major matchup: Butler gained steam as a Redskins first round pick according to many experts but as we know now, Washington passed on much of the quality defensive line depth. One of the reasons the Panthers let Josh Norman go is current general manager Gettleman's belief that strong line play will result in good play from the secondary. Butler is a big powerful player that hustles to the football, which could wreak havoc in the Redskins offensive attack. At 323 pounds, he is even more forceful than his size, a factor that may force opponents into unwanted double teams.
Keep an eye on: For the second year in a row, Carolina took a corner out of Samford but he probably won't be the immediate Norman replacement. Bradberry has the length and quick reactionary movements to be a strong player, but he is raw and likely a developmental project for 2016. Should the Panthers be desperate to throw different looks at the Redskins late in the year, Kirk Cousins will start picking on the rookie's inexperience.
Don't forget: The Panthers took not one, not two, but three straight cornerbacks. One reason Carolina only had five overall picks was a trade that sent three draft picks to move up 16 spots in the third round to select Worley seven picks ahead of Redskins rookie corner Kendall Fuller. Clearly the Panthers' plan involved taking as many shots as possible at replacing Norman. We'll see if one of the three corners is the charm.
