Ziggy Hood surprisingly among Redskins not in Tampa for preseason finale

Redskins players who do not need to play tonight in Tampa spend their day at the team's annual Welcome Home Luncheon with alumni.

TYSONS CORNER -- With a sudden change of events due to Tropical Depression Nine, the Washington Redskins fourth preseason game was moved up to Wednesday night, which conflicted with the team's annual Welcome Home Luncheon. As a result, the key contributors to the team who were not going to play against the Buccaneers stayed back in the DMV area and attended the alumni event.

That group included Kirk CousinsJosh NormanTrent Williams and other obvious names.

Surprisingly, defensive lineman Ziggy Hood also made the stay-home cut, which seemingly bodes well for his chances of making the final cut. The Redskins must reduce their roster from 75 to 53 by Saturday.

Hood, Chris Baker and Kedric Golston were the only defensive lineman left behind. Others, including Ricky Jean FrancoisKendall Reyes and the newly signed Cullen Jenkins are expected to play.

Veteran defensive back Greg Toler, who impressed during training camp, was also among the approximate 27 players in attendance at the Hilton Tysons Corner. which indicates his spot on the 53-man roster against Pittsburgh after a strong training camp.

Hood and Toler were added for training camp depth, but clearly have turned into more than that.
