CB Quinton Dunbar has been a disappointment this preseason:
The Redskins have a deep cornerback group and second year CB Quinton Dunbar was viewed as a key piece. However, he has struggled to impress over this preseason. Washington's rookie Kendall Fuller has outplayed the former Gator, in my opinion. Dunbar had some success late last season and against Green Bay in the playoffs. But I think the expectation was that the 6ft 2, 203 lb Wide Receiver convert would take his game to the next level this year.
Personally, I envisioned a scenario where Dunbar would step in for nickel downs across Josh Norman while Bashaud Breeland plays slot. In several conversations with Breeland earlier this summer, it even sounded as if he was prepared to do that. Yet, Dunbar's performance this preseason makes that notion unlikely.
In Ben Standig's previous 53-man roster projection, six corners make the cut. Dunbar is of course one of them. What's interesting now could be the hierarchy. From what I've watched, Dunbar could find himself being trumped by a player such as Kendall Fuller or Greg Toler.
While Dunbar has some natural traits and raw talent, I do believe there's several areas of his game that needs to be developed.
