Redskins 53-man roster predictions: Who are the odd men out on defense?

Will the Redskins keep only six defensive linemen? Can they hold 11 defensive backs?

The preseason is over and final cuts are looming. The Washington Redskins must trim their roster from 75 too 53 by Saturday. Click here for the offense. Now, the defense and special teams, plus final cuts breakdown.

Defensive line (6) -- Chris Baker, Kendall Reyes, Ricky Jean Francois, Ziggy HoodKedric Golston, Cullen Jenkins

Changes (In - Golston, Jenkins; Out - Paea, Matt Ioannidis)

* This unit remains the shakiest on the roster heading into the opener. Maybe Jenkins helps solidify the DT slot next to Baker, but that rotation now includes a 35 (Jenkins) and a 33-year-old (Golston). Reyes didn't wow in the preseason either. As for cutting the fifth round pick, Ioannidis wasn't a major standout this summer. That doesn't mean give up on the potential. However, the main unit needs as many guys who can play now as possible. Between Ioannidis, Anthony Lanier and Corey Crawford, at least one of the young players should slip onto the Practice Squad. Perhaps a pair. The Redskins might just have to take that risk.

Linebacker (9) -- Ryan KerriganPreston SmithWill ComptonMason Foster, Houston Bates, Su'a Cravens, Terence GarvinTrent MurphyMartrell Spaight

Changes (none)

Perry Riley was seemingly the odd man out from the start. That didn't change based on how Spaight, Cravens and Garvin performedCarlos Fields made a strong impression as well.

Defensive back (11) -- Josh Norman, Bashaud Breeland, DeAngelo Hall, David Bruton, Dashaun PhillipsQuinton Dunbar, Kendall Fuller, Greg Toler, Will Blackmon, Duke Ihenacho, DeShazor Everett

Changes (In - Everett)

* Tell me who from this group isn't roster-worthy at this point and we can keep a fourth tight end or extra lineman. Now, keeping 11 defensive backs is extreme, but not sure how they can let Everett go after yet another forceful performance on defense and special teams. Considering the age elsewhere at safety, I can imagine the Redskins keep the 24-year-old over the 31-year-old Blackmon if forced. Lloyd Carrington and Mariel Cooper might have a legit shot to crack the roster some other year or if Toler hadn't wowed in Richmond.

Specialists (3) -- Dustin Hopkins, Tress Way, Nick Sundberg

* Nothing to see here.

Breakdown: Offense (24), Defense (26), Special Teams (3)
