How The 2016 Washington Redskins Were Built

In less than two years, GM Scot McCloughan and his staff have reshaped the Washington Redskins roster.

Scot McCloughan's second offseason as the Washington Redskins lead player personnel manager is in the books. McCloughan preaches rebuilding a team's talent through the annual NFL draft and the Redskins roster seems to reflect it. Breaking Burgundy breaks down how each of the players currently on the Redskins 53-man roster got to Washington.

* 24 players were acquired through free agency or signed to a futures contract, while another 23 free signed as Washington's own draft picks. The remaining six would be brought in as undrafted free agents.

* Of the 23 draft picks that have stuck around in Washington, 12 are McCloughan's own selections. That number could jump to 13 out of 24 if fifth round pick Matt Ioannidis is promoted from the practice squad.

* Although the Redskins are older in McCloughan's second year in charge, that trend should reverse as the former Seattle personnel executive gets more draft classes under his belt.

* Tight end Derek Carrier (ACL) would represent the team's only acquisition through trade, but is currently on the physically unable to perform list.

* 36 players return from last year's active roster that lost to the Packers in the playoffs, while another five finished 2015 either on the injured reserve list or practice squad (Austin Reiter).

* Only 24 players remain from the pre-McCloughan era of 2014 including those that finished the year on injured reserve and practice squad (Rashad Ross).

* With further roster overhaul and continuing the trend of the previously two years, there may only be 12 Redskins from the 2014 season with the team in 2017. We will have to wait and see.
