Morning Manny: The Redskins Face A Must Win Game Week Three

The Redskins must climb their way out the hole they've dug themselves in Week three against the New York Giants.

Manny Benton often tweets random thoughts regarding the Washington Redskins at random times of the day that typically bring interesting dialog. Now from Monday through Thursday at around 9 a.m., you can find those Twitter-sized thoughts in "Morning Manny." Complete with explanations!

Code Red has arrived

Head coach Jay Gruden came short of declaring a code red after Washington's week two loss against the Dallas Cowboys. However, with two consecutive losses at home to begin the season, Washington's Week Three match against the New York Giants is must win.

"Back to the drawing board," said Gruden in his post game presser Sunday. "0-2 at home is not the way we wanted to start, without a doubt, but still a lot of football is in front of us.”

The Redskins are already behind in the NFC race through two weeks of play. You only get eight home games in a season. Last year, the team won 5 of their first 6 home games. Winning at home is what kept them alive. They didn't even win a road game until December. So losing two of your first eight home games this early in the season is not ideal. Although, Washington's QB Kirk Cousins hasn't quite hit the panic button.

"I think no matter what we face, we always have to focus on what are the positives, what do we have to look forward to, what do we have to get done going forward, and I think to just dwell on frustration or dwell on ‘would’ve, could’ve, should’ve’ isn’t going to get us anywhere," Cousins said. "That wouldn’t be a mentally tough team.

The truth is, Washington has to beat the New York Giants on Sunday or things could get ugly. History says defeating the Giants in New York will be a tough task. Cousins is 1-4 in his match-ups vs the division rival and has never won in New York. Not to mention, he's thrown for 5 TDs and 8 interceptions in those games.

So sound the alarm. Code red is among us. The Redskins need to put down the shovel and pick up a rope to climb themselves out this hole they've dug.
