Cam Newton's athleticism may be an issue for the Redskins' defense
The competitor in Cam Newton is not going to shy away from throwing balls in his former teammate and wrestling partner Josh Norman's direction Monday night. He will challenge Norman. Issue is, Norman will likely face Kelvin Benjamin, who is quite possibly the laziest receiver in the entire National Football League. So that match-up should favor Norman. However, what the Redskins should be worried about is Cam Newton's athletic ability.
Facing QBs who have the ability to create in the pocket and scramble has been an issue for this defense. Not that they have many strengths, but that has definitely been a weakness. This is a team that struggled to contain Lions' QB Matthew Stafford and Packers' QB Aaron Rodgers. They even allowed Joe Flacco to convert a 6 yard third down using his legs early in the season against the Baltimore Ravens, which is otherwise impossible to do. But Cam Newton will be the most explosive QB they have faced this season. It will be interesting to see how they fare.
Newton has run for five touchdowns this season, picking up 317 yards. He's toted the rock 76 times, so it's something he definitely does a lot. Without Su'a Cravens, who has been used as a QB spy at times this season, the Redskins will have to be extremely disciplined Monday night. Newton has been playing injured for much of this season, most recently a shoulder injury. However, his legs is still a major threat and containing him, in my opinion, will be key for Washington Monday night.
