Morning Manny: Four Redskins Close To Big Single-Season Achievements

Four Redskins' playmakers are close to big single-season achievements.

Manny Benton often tweets random thoughts regarding the Washington Redskins at random times of the day that typically bring interesting dialog. Now from Monday through Thursday at around 9 a.m., you can find those Twitter-sized thoughts in "Morning Manny." Complete with explanations!

Four Redskins' offensive players are close to big single-season achievements:

Besides an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth, Sunday's game against the New York Giants could potentially be huge for several offensive players. The Redskins could very well have multiple 1,000-yard receivers for the first time since 1999 after this game. DeSean Jackson (971) and Pierre Garcon (945) are very close to that mark. It's also possible that Washington could have three receivers meet that 1k mark, if Jamison Crowder (831) breaks out a 169 yard game. It would be only the second time in team history the Redskins have had three 1,000-yard receivers (Gary Clark, Art Monk and Ricky Sanders in 1989).

A 1,000 yard season for Garcon and Jackson would be their second with the team. It comes at a perfect time for both, who will become free agents at the conclusion of the season. Both receivers have been playing extremely well as of late. Specifically Jackson, who has had three consecutive 100-yard games. If he has another on Sunday, it would also be a franchise record.

Of course, these receivers wouldn't be close to these accomplishments without a QB that spreads the wealth. Kirk Cousins has done a solid job simply distributing the ball to this outstanding cast of receiver talent. With 370 yards on Sunday, Cousins would record the first 5,000-yard passing season in team history. Excluding other quarterbacks whose 2016 seasons may qualify pending the results of Week 17, it would be the ninth 5,000-yard season in NFL history. In what is now a passing league, those numbers may not seem as major as they would have years ago. But either way, not many have done it and that would be a great accomplishment for Cousins who is also entering free agent offseason status.
