In news that seemed like it happened already, but perhaps not technically, the Washington Redskins are back in the Junior Galette business. The pass rusher is back with a 1-year contract, according to a report Saturday morning.
As a reminder, Galette essentially said this was a done deal earlier this year. Anyway, apparently pen was put to paper.
Should Galette, 28, play for the Redskins in Week 1 of the 2017 season, it would mark the first time he actually suits up for Washington. Galette tore his let Achilles in 2015 just days after the Redskins signed him early into training camp. He then popped the right one last summer. Both were season-ending injuries.
Should the edge presence return to action in 2017, Washington hopes it gets the player who registered 22 sacks from 2013-14 with New Orleans. The Redskins received ample pass rush from outside linebackers Ryan Kerrigan and Trent Murphy last season, though Preston Smith suffered a sophomore slump. Add Galette into that mix and...
... Let's hold that thought. Let's see Galette get on the field. Let's see Galette make it through OTA's, training camp and the preseason. Let's see all that before we let our imaginations run wild with various pass rushers blitzing quarterbacks from all angles. All we know is that Galette will reportedly be part of the team next season. Beyond that, who knows? What we do know is Galette returning to form would bolster this suspect defense. For late February and for a reportedly minor cost, that's enough for now.
