Report: Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey visits Redskins

The all-purpose back could end up the second runner selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. Will he be available for the Redskins at 17?

Several NFL mock drafts link the Washington Redskins and Christian McCaffreytogether, assuming the Stanford running back is still available at No. 17. The two sides reportedly got together Tuesday at Redskins Park, according to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo

This meeting was just an interview, Garafolo reported, an expected based on previous reports. McCaffrey has declined all private workouts after wowing the scouting community at the NFL Combine. The dual-threat standout could land inside the top-10 with the RB-needy Carolina Panthers selecting eighth overall. Philadelphia (14) is another rumored landing spot along with Washington.

Whether the Redskins, who have several needs remaining, would select a running back in round one with Chris Thompson and Robert Kelley returning is up for debate. What's not in question is whether McCaffrey could provide the offense with a needed playmaker out of the backfield.

* My latest NFL mock draft dropped Tuesday afternoon. Spoiler: No McCaffrey for the Redskins.
