Morning Manny: Washington Redskins Pre-Draft Position Review (Defensive Backs)

Manny Benton reviews the Redskins DB positions prior to the NFL Draft.

With the NFL Draft now days away, it's time to give a pre-draft look at the Washington Redskins roster. Below I'll grade and review each position on the team. Today's edition is on the defensive line and linebackers.

Quarterbacks and Wide Receivers

Running backs, Offensive line and Tight Ends

Defensive Line and Linebackers

Cornerbacks (Rankings):

  1. Josh Norman
  2. Bashaud Breeland
  3. Kendall Fuller
  4. Quinton Dunbar
  5. Dashaun Phillips
  6. Tharold Simon

Position Grade: B-

Perfect Draft Fit: Tre'Davious White, LSU - I like a several corners in this draft, but White is my personal favorite. He can be a day one starter at the nickel position and is versatile enough to be a high end starter outside.

Notes: The Redskins have some good corners, but you can never have enough players at that position. I think their glaring hole is at nickel-back and in today's NFL, you need a guy to play the slot. They baptized Kendall Fuller by fire last year in the slot. He was an outside corner at Virginia Tech and I think that's his strength. However, I think he can be developed in the slot. Of Washington's current corners, Fuller is the most fluid. He has a lot of potential. Breeland is on the last year of his deal. I think he can still be a high-end corner in this league.

Safety (Rankings)

  1. D.J. Swearinger
  2. Su'a Cravens
  3. DeAngelo Hall
  4. Deshazor Everett
  5. Will Blackmon

Position Grade: C-

Perfect Draft Fit: Marcus Maye, Florida - This may be the most under-talked-about safety in the draft. He is a super solid player that would immediately give the Redskins versatility at the safety spot(s). He can do it all.

Notes: If the Redskins were to enter the season with Swearinger and Cravens as their starting safeties (which I expect them to do), it wouldn't be a terrible tandem. I just think there's more questions at the position(s) right now because of the unknown. Either way, the Redskins lack depth at the position and could use an upgrade or two.
