Island Of Fabian Moreau: Redskins Select UCLA CB In Third Round

The Redskins went for secondary help by selecting a Pac 12 standout.

The Washington Redskins stick with the defensive side of the ball in the third round with the selection of UCLA cornerback Fabian Moreau.

After adding defensive lineman Jonathan Allen and linebacker Ryan Anderson with their first two back, the Redskins addressed their third line of defense.

Who: Fabian Moreau

College: UCLA

Position: Cornerback

Height/weight:  6'0" 206 pounds

Why him: Josh Norman is the top corner, but Washington's other starter, Bashaud Breeland, becomes a free agent in 2018 and Kendall Fuller is coming off an up-and-down rookie season. Moreau suffered an injury at his Pro Day. That slowed his rise, which may have reached the first round, though he is expected to be ready for the season opener. Here's NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock gushing about Moreau during the NFL Combine

Strengths (From "Moreau is an explosive athlete who had to transition from running back over to cornerback. While the transition has taken some time thanks to inexperience and his 2015 injury, Moreau's tape shows a more confident and consistent cover man than before. Moreau's strength, speed and athleticism will move him up draft boards, but a torn pectoral muscle at his pro day could cause him to drop by a round."

Weaknesses: Injuries are a theme; Lisfranc injury in his left foot affected his 2015 season. ESPN analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay both commented after the selection that Moreau struggles with the ball in the air.

Stats: Had two interceptions and 10 breakups in 2016, earning honorable mention All-Pac-12  honors after playing only three games in 2015.

Redskins' current depth chart: Josh Norman, Bashaud Breeland, Kendall Fuller, Quinton Dunbar, Dashaun Phillips, Tharold Simon
