Rookie Matchups: Minnesota adds immediate help as well as future stars

There might not be any immediate starters, but they have solid contributors in their 2017 class.

The NFL Draft is over and the work to get all the rookies ready for the NFL begins. For the Washington Redskins that means first round pick Jonathan Allen and nine other players selected in the 2017 draft. The same scenario exists for the other 31 NFL teams of which the Redskins will face 13 including each NFC East rival twice. Let's begin taking a look at the interesting matchups and scenarios involving the new guys.

Who: Minnesota Vikings

When: Week 10: Sunday, November 12 at 1 pm on FOX

Where: FedEx Field

Interesting rookies:

* 2nd round -- Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State

* 3rd round -- Pat Elflein, C, Ohio State

* 4th round -- Jaleel Johnson, DT, Iowa

Major matchup:  After Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey went in the Top 8 of the draft, teams did not reach for Cook's talent, which was to the benefit of Minnesota who is looking for their next Adrian Peterson. He has speed and quickness, but in a crowded running back room with Latavius Murray, Jerick McKinnon, and Bishop Sankey, he may not be asked to be the huge workhorse he may end up being in his rookie season. Even so, Cook's unique athleticism will definitely get him playing time that Washington will have to game plan towards.

Keep an eye on: Centers are not a hot commodity in the NFL Draft because teams feel that they can shift an average talent level guard in once more and get a decent product, but Minnesota was able to get the clear-cut best center in this year's draft in the third round, another win. Elfein may not start over Nick Easton this season, but he also provides an option to pop out to a guard position if needed.

Don't forget: Johnson receives comparisons to the Redskins own Ziggy Hood because he has a strong motor and NFL level athleticism despite not being the optimal run stuffer. Johnson could easily crack the line rotation as a solid three-technique and give Brandon Scherff a run for his money because of his quick feet.
