Gibbs Eyes Training Camp

The memory still irks him, evident by the rising tone in his voice. When it comes to training camp holdouts, Joe Gibbs is adamant. They stink.

So he wants to make sure that the Redskins aren't burned by a top pick holding out, much like they were with Desmond Howard way back when. ''He showed up out of shape,'' said Gibbs, who did not mention Howard by name. ''And he had a ton of money and we finally said, 'He's not going to produce this year.' Which he didn't. It's a mess. Agents think they help players by getting them that extra buck . . . but they're shortsighted on that.''

Consider that a message for rookie safety Sean Taylor, who is without an agent. But consider that one reason why Gibbs likely shied away from Kellen Winslow Jr., despite what he said about his agents, the Poston brothers.

But Gibbs is confident Taylor will be in camp on time, or at least not miss much time.

''I'm not worried about that,'' Gibbs said. ''Dan [Snyder] is heavily involved in that and we're known for paying fair money.'' In his final press conference before the start of training camp, Gibbs talked about several other topics, too.

He's pleased with where the organization is in such a short time. And he's not out chasing any other players -- at least not right now. ''If anyone comes up that we're interested in, we'll be al over it,'' Gibbs said. ''But there's . . . not much of a possibility of anything happening.''

Gibbs also said he expects all players, except corner Walt Harris, to be fully healthy for camp. And he's not sure of Harris' timetable. As for Gibbs, he's headed out of town Thursday for several weeks of vacation -- at the beach and with the grandkids.
